Who we are

One firm, from the first dig to the final finish

Pro Paving & Driveways is a Doncaster contractor based in Rossington. We lay driveways and patios, we build gardens, and we do the groundworks underneath all of it — foundations, drainage, excavation and concrete works.

That matters more than it sounds. Most paving problems are not paving problems: they are drainage problems, or sub-base problems, or a level that was never set right in the first place. Because we do the groundworks ourselves, nothing gets left for somebody else to sort out.

We work for homeowners and builders across Doncaster and South Yorkshire, and we take on everything from a side path to a complete garden transformation, a set of foundations or a home extension.

Typical build-up for a domestic block paved driveway. Depths vary with the ground conditions and whether vehicles heavier than a car will use it — which is why we dig a trial hole before we price anything substantial.

Why quotes differ

Most of a driveway is the part you never see

Two quotations for the same driveway can be thousands apart, and the blocks are rarely the reason. The difference is nearly always underneath.

A drive laid straight onto whatever was already there, on 50mm of sand and no sub-base, will look identical on the day it is finished. Give it two winters and a car turning on it and you get rutting, sinking by the garage, and blocks that rock underfoot.

Every quotation we write states the excavation depth and the sub-base thickness, so you can compare ours against anyone else's on the thing that actually decides how long it lasts.

  • Dig out to a stated depth
  • Spoil removed, not buried
  • Type 1 compacted in layers
  • Membrane over soft ground
  • Edges haunched in concrete
  • Falls set to a drainage point

Before you call

Questions we get asked most weeks

How much does a new driveway cost in Doncaster?

It depends far more on the ground than on the blocks. A straightforward block paved drive on decent ground usually lands somewhere between £90 and £140 per square metre once the excavation, spoil removal, sub-base, edgings and drainage are all in. Poor ground, a lot of muck to take away, or awkward access push it up. We give you a fixed price in writing after we have seen it, with the excavation depth stated, so you can compare it properly.

How long does a driveway or patio take?

A typical domestic driveway is four to six working days from breaking ground to cleaning down. A patio is often two to four. Weather matters — we will not lay on a saturated sub-base or point up in a hard frost, because it will not last.

Do I need planning permission for a new driveway?

Usually not, if the surface is permeable or if the water drains to a soakaway or a border within your own boundary rather than running onto the road. Front gardens over five square metres surfaced in something impermeable that drains to the highway do need permission. We design the drainage so this is not a problem, and we will tell you plainly if we think you need to check with the council.

Do you take a deposit?

Not before you have a written quotation and a start date. On larger jobs we normally ask for a materials payment on the day we start, and the balance on completion after you have walked the job with us.

How far do you travel?

We are in Rossington and work across Doncaster, South Yorkshire and into North Nottinghamshire — Bawtry, Tickhill, Armthorpe, Hatfield, Retford, Worksop and Rotherham are all regular. If you are a bit further out, ring anyway.

Are you insured?

Yes. Public liability cover is in place and we are happy to send the certificate over with your quotation.
